What just happened??

Welcome to a review of what's been going on this year!!

10-8/10-12  Mission trip to P-cola

We saw damage like we've never seen before.  We are trying to get some pictures on here soon.  We still have a bulliten board in the main hall with a map showing where all we were able to help.  Check it out.

10-6-04  Another email for Pcola bound folks.

We do have showers (three shower heads in each bathroom) available, and you would be welcome to use our kitchen facilities.  Pam Westerlund, our Wright Place Director will meet you on Thursday evening to welcome you and show you the facility.  Many restaurants are now open in Pensacola, including a McDonalds which is about six blocks from the church.  We have ample supplies of bottled water; so there is no need to bring your own.  Hope that covers everything.  Look forward to meeting you and your team on Friday morning.  We do have some activities in the Wright Place beginning at 8:00 a.m. central time; so everyone will need to be up and showered by then.

10-04-04  Fall Trippers to Pensacola. This is an email from our contact at First UMC Pensacola.

We look forward to the arrival of your team.  Most of the work at this point involves clean-up.  I will be touching base this week with several churches in our District to see what their immediate needs might be; but in terms of our own congregation, we have many elderly members who need assistance clearing debris from their yards, and we have several members who are still working on salvaging what they can from houses.  I would definitely recommend work gloves and appropriate footware (boots); insect repellant and sunscreen; and yard tools and cleaning tools.  A couple of shovels would probably also be a good idea.

10-3-04  We had another great Sunday evening  in youth...we played football, had a great snack supper, worshipped with our band and then with a good song from Hillsongs newest DVD "For All You've Done".  Our favorite song right now is "One Way"  but when the song "With all I am" played...it led us into a great time of soul searching and prayer.  We offered all of ourselves to God again.  We opened the floor up for those that felt God was calling you to give "all that we had" to Him again and needed prayer to help that happen.  Again God really blessed us by showing up and really taking us from where we were to a deeper and stronger place with Him.  It's such an awesome site to see youth gathered around laying hands on and praying for their friends as if their life depended on it...cause you never know...it just may have.

9-13-04  World View Weekend with team from Bryan College

We looked at 3 worldviews and then answered the 5 essential questions with each worldview.

What are the five essentianl questions???? do you know???

Origin?  Where did we come from?

Identity?  Who am I?

Meaning    What's is all about?

Morality?  Why do what you do?

Destiny?   What happens when we die?

8-10-04 How was the first day back?  Remember to invite your friends to the TAG lockin this Friday!  Check back for the times for everything.

8-9-04 Mission Successful   Our high school mission project went great!  We went to Mt Pleasant, SC (right outside Charleston) and worked with the United Methodist Relief Center and helped build homes for families that could otherwise not afford housing.  We attached hurricane strapping foundation to house and from house to room, capped the foundation, secured the house to the foundation, painted the interior ceilings, built a replacement floor where the fireplace once was, built a washer dryer room in the kitchen and finally helped the UMRC clean up around the volunteer house where all the supplies and tools are stored! Thanks for the great attitude of all those in attendance, keep checking www.umrc.org to look for the completed house.

6-12-04  The Youth Choir Tour was awesome!  The highlight was singing for Sandy Kluttz's home church in Orlando Fla.  They had a great crowd and really responded to the message of the musical. They also saved us when our bus breaks went OUT and we were stranded in the parking lot of the liquor store.

We were also able to lead worship in 2 retirement homes where we were very well recieved.  Finally we spent the day at Islands of Adventure (where we were not supposed to wear Red [ask a youth]) and got the ride the new Hulk and Spiderman rides.

5-16-04  Confirmation Overload!!  It was great to see all the youth we had that were baptized and then confirmed yesterday.  It all started with 4 students being dunked, submersed, however you want to say it.  Then we had 2 others; one being poured and another sprinkled. No matter the method, they died to their old selves and were made alive with Christ by the act of obedience of baptism.  Then all 15 students were confirmed as members of Tyner UMC.  Take a look at what that looked like!.

3-25-04  Last night at youth we experienced what it was like to carry the burdens of our friends in a whole new way.  Youth went over 30 minutes and the Spirit was still moving powerfully in their midst.  Listen to what was said.

"We had an awesome night of prayer!  Jeff woke up at 3 in the morning with a burden that there were a lot of things that our Youth needed to come together and lift each other up in prayer, and boy did we!  The Youth were given a chance to talk about any prayer requests or burdens they had in their life, and then the whole group surrounded them in prayer and lifted these concerns to God!  God was moving in a mighty way in the lives of our Youth!  The support and love that was being shown really touched my heart, and kind of made we wonder why we as adults can't do this!  The Youth do have a lot of burdens, and many of them are hurting, and have friends that are hurting and need to know God, and many these were lifted up and covered in prayer last night.  I get bumps on my arms now just thinking about it.  I look for us to do this again because it was such an uplifting and healing time together.  It's always good to know that you have friends such as these that will pray with you and hold you and support you no matter what you are going through.  I'm sorry if we went over too much last night, but this was something that I hated to interrupt and put an end to.  Something this good I just wanted to let the Spirit keep moving and not worry about the clock."     Shelley Brown-Youth Volunteer

Sunday night was awesome and amazing! I did not know that some of those people cared who stood up there and prayed for me after I told them about my hope to be an intercessor. I was so surprised that that many people took it seriously! I did not think that it was going to work out well with some of those people. I was happy with how well it went. Wednesday people said they never thought of my sister and I having family problems. I do not know how they didn't know. We must not be too messed up if people couldn't tell. That made me feel good. I loved how all of that worked out!                                 DH -One of Tyner's youth

Check out the link in the left margin for more information on Prayer !!

3-11-04  During lent we want to be sure and keep our commitment of our prayer partners.  We need to get in contact with them and pray for them at least 2-3 times a week.  Email them scripture, neat devotional thoughts, funny looking pictures...anything to encourage them and help them and their walk for Christ.  Amy and Megan have left me the list at church and we will have it up soon.  If you want to be added to the list...email me ASAP!  Jeff

2-23-04 The Passion Of Christ 9:30 on FRIDAY.  We will be taking 60 students and adults.  Let's meet at church at 8:00.  We need permission forms from all youth that are 17 and under from your parents.  If you will click here the Passion Permission Form and have it to me by Wednesday that would be great!  Names of all going in upcoming events link to left.

We have taken our friends names, placed them on the cross, and been praying for them and how the movie will draw them to Christ the Savior.  Keep praying as we return for the lock-in at 12:00 and have a night fun food and giving thanks.  If you can't open the Passion Permission form, click the Icon below and try again.   Get Adobe Reader

1-30-03  We now have the curriculum for THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST and will start studying next Wednesday evening.  The movie comes out Feb 25th.  Pray that God will use this to His Glory and we will take the opportunity to invite our friends that need to know Christ.

1-28-04 Resurrection Report:  Awesome!  Adrian Despres (from www.kbm.org) was our speaker and he challenged us to move up to the first chair, meaning total surrender of ourselves to God.

1st chair= I'm totally surrendered and in a growing relationship with Christ, I'm a new creation leaving my old ways behind and drawing on Christ's strength to help me live following His ways.

2nd chair= I'm saved but used to God and no longer growing, reverting back to old thoughts and ways.  Seems that most people that run the church are in this category.  This chair was disgusting to the speaker.

3rd chair= I come to church and think I'm saved, but I've never really given my life to Christ.  When I sin I really don't feel badly or give it a second thought.

4th chair= Never believed in Christ or all the church spiritual stuff and I make no bones about it!

Chris Tomlin ( www.christomlin.com ) was our worship leader.

1-09 Youth News:

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

I enjoyed our youth program last Sunday as we talked about our spiritual life last year...did we grow, stay the same, become stagnate?  How about it?  We asked the question, how can we expect to grow closer to Christ when were not praying, not reading the Word, not encouraging others to walk closer because we really aren't.  I pray we have realized that we can't depend on our pastor, youth leader, parents, or friends to make us closer to Christ, but that us drawing near to Christ depends on action on our part!!  Use the Daily Devotions on the youth menu to begin your new year of action right now.  Do it for 2 weeks and then see if it's been worth it!  I guarantee that you will not be the same if you pray for Christ to make you more like HIM every time before you study!!!

BLESSINGS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

JEFF
